Trainer Luke Pepper circles Group 1 Tatt's Tiara as Opal Ridge's grand final

Trainer Luke Pepper is plotting a long range plan on the path to a maiden Group 1 with stable star Opal Ridge.

The four-year-old mare hasn't been sighted at the races since The Hunter but is back, firing and not far off her first-up return.

Pepper is keen for another crack at the Brisbane winter carnival with Opal Ridge, circling the Group 1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) as the grand final.

She's $11 with TAB to win the final Group 1 of the season but will kick her campaign off at Scone on Saturday week.

"The plan always was to give her a good break with a sharp focus towards this year's carnival in Brisbane to aim up at the Tatt's Tiara," Pepper said.

"That's the grand final so we really want to concentrate on that, try to get her up in Brisbane as best she can be to have her peaking on that day.

"We'll kick off in the Ortensia in the Scone carnival at the 1100m. Obviously she won the Luskin Star last year but that's at 1300m and she's first-up this year so we're going to run in the Ortensia."

Magic Time is the $4.50 favourite in betting for the Tatt's Tiara while is also a $6 chance for the Stradbroke Handicap.

The two met during their three-year-old season not much went right for Opal Ridge in the PJ Bell Stakes.

A rematch could be on the cards with Pepper set to nominate Opal Ridge for both the Stradbroke and Kingsford Smith Cup but the daughter of Rubick is likely to take another path.

"She'll be nominated in the two Group 1s up there in the Kingsford Smith Cup and Stradbroke," Pepper said.

"But more than likely she'll run three weeks before in the Moreton Cup or go to the Dane Ripper again, like she did last year."

Tommy Berry will ride Opal Ridge at Scone but a jockey for her Brisbane campaign is yet to be locked in.
